Mahindra is set to streamline its Scorpio line-up with the upgrade to BS6 emission norms. The carmaker will drop the base S3 trim level, the 2.5-litre diesel engine, and the 120hp, 2.2 mHawk diesel, which means the BS6-compliant SUV will have four variants – S5, S7, S9 and S11 – and only the 140hp/320Nm 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine in its range. Four-wheel-drive won’t be offered either.
Gearbox options will include a 5-speed manual (only on the S5) and a 6-speed manual gearbox.
To make it BS6-compliant, the 2.2 mHawk engine gets selective catalytic reduction system with a dedicated urea tank along with a diesel particulate filter. This system is also used in the brand’s BS6-compliant, 1.5-litre diesel mill that powers the XUV300 and the Marazzo as well.
Coming to the interiors, the BS6 Scorpio’s seating layouts will carry forward unchanged. The S5 will be available as a 7- or 9-seater with side-facing seats in the third row, the other variants will be either 7- or 8-seaters, while the S11 gets the option of captain seats in the second row and a front-facing third row.
On the equipment front, the entry-level Scorpio S5 will be sparsely equipped with basics such as dual front airbags, ABS, air conditioning, front seat belt reminders, rear parking sensors, and Mahindra’s micro-hybrid technology. The fully loaded S11, on the other hand, will get kit such as alloy wheels, a 7.0-inch touchscreen with navigation, auto climate control, reverse camera, faux leather upholstery, cruise control and puddle lamps.
In addition to this BS6 upgrade, Mahindra is also readying a new generation of the Scorpio SUV that is expected to launch next year. A new generation of the XUV500, and the second-generation Thar are also on the cards.
