Citroen Basalt Dark Edition: what’s new?

All-black exterior and interior treatment

The teaser video also hints at a dark chrome finish for the alloy wheels and badges. Additionally, the front and rear skid plates, which are finished in silver on the regular model, could also be blacked out. A brief glimpse of the interior hints at new black upholstery. The regular Basalt gets light beige upholstery and a dual-tone black/beige finish for the dashboard.

Citroen Basalt Dark Edition engine options

Expected to be based on top-spec trim

Most black edition variants are usually offered on the top-spec trim, and the same can be expected with the Basalt. As for engine options, the Basalt gets an 82hp, 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol or a 110hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol; only the latter gets an automatic gearbox option. It remains to be seen which powertrain options the Basalt Dark Edition gets.

Growing popularity of Dark Edition models

The list of dark edition SUVs seems to be constantly growing. Models like the Hyundai Creta, MG Astor, Honda Elevate, Tata Harrier and Safari, Jeep Compass and Mahindra Scorpio N are all offered with Dark Edition variants, with the Mahindra XUV700 Ebony Edition being the most recent addition. And it’s not just limited to SUVs because the Toyota Hilux and MG Comet also received Dark Editions variants recently. The Basalt’s arch rival, the Tata Curvv, is also expected to get a Dark Edition soon.
