With the soaring petrol and diesel prices, CNG-powered cars seem like a viable option for buyers worried about high running costs. In recent years, leading manufacturers have introduced CNG variants for a range of their vehicles, which means that buyers need not worry about limited options. Here’s a list of the CNG-equipped cars and SUVs currently sold in India.
Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 CNG
The Alto CNG is the most affordable CNG car in the country, with prices starting from Rs 5.74 lakh. It gets a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that makes 57hp and 82Nm in CNG mode. The Alto CNG comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox only.
Maruti Suzuki S-Presso CNG
The S-Presso CNG makes use of the same 1.0-litre petrol-CNG powertrain as the Alto, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Prices range from Rs 5.92 lakh to 6.12 lakh. It is available in LXi and VXi variants.
Maruti Suzuki Eeco CNG
The Maruti Suzuki Eeco CNG has a 1.2-litre petrol engine that delivers 81hp when run on petrol and 72hp on CNG. The Eeco CNG has just one variant and is priced at Rs 6.58 lakh.
Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG
Yet another Maruti hatch to be offered with the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine, the Celerio gets a CNG option in the VXi variant only. The Celerio CNG offers a claimed mileage of 34.43 km/kg and is priced at Rs 6.74 lakh.
Maruti Suzuki WagonR CNG
The Maruti Suzuki WagonR gets two petrol engine options—a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder unit and a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder unit. The CNG kit is available with the 1.0-litre engine only, with a standard 5-speed MT gearbox. Prices start from Rs 6.45 lakh and go up to Rs 6.89 lakh.
Tata Tiago CNG
The Tiago CNG makes use of Tata Motors’ dual-cylinder technology, which helps free up boot space that’s otherwise taken up by a conventional CNG cylinder. It has a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that makes 73hp and 103Nm in CNG mode. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. Prices are in Rs 6.60 lakh–8.90 lakh range.
Tata Punch CNG
Like the Tiago, the Punch CNG also gets a twin-tank setup. With prices starting at Rs 7.23 lakh, the Tata Punch CNG is the most affordable CNG SUV in India. It is equipped with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that makes 73hp and 103Nm in CNG model and gets a 5-speed manual transmission.
Tata Altroz CNG
The Altroz CNG is priced between Rs 7.60 lakh and Rs 10.65 lakh and gets the same 1.2-litre petrol-CNG powertrain as the Tiago CNG and Punch CNG, with a 5-speed manual gearbox only.
Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG
The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG pairs a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine with a CNG kit and produces 69hp and 95Nm torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. The hatchback is priced from Rs 7.68 lakh to Rs 8.23 lakh.
Tata Tigor CNG
Priced between Rs 7.75 lakh and Rs 9.55 lakh, Tigor CNG has a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that makes 73hp in CNG mode. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.
Hyundai Aura CNG
Tata Tigor CNG’s rival Hyundai Aura CNG comes with a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine, producing 69hp and 92Nm of torque. The CNG kit is available with only two variants, S and SX, which are priced at Rs 8.31 lakh and Rs 9.05 lakh, respectively.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno CNG
The Maruti Baleno CNG is priced between Rs 8.40 lakh and Rs 9.33 lakh. It comes with a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that generates 78hp and 99Nm and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Hyundai Exter CNG
The Hyundai Exter CNG makes use of a 1.2-litre petrol engine generating 69hp and 95Nm, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. It has a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 27.10km/kg. The Exter CNG is available in S and SX variants, priced at Rs 8.43 lakh and Rs 9.16 lakh, respectively. The CNG versions of the Exter, Aura and Grand i10 Nios could soon get a twin-tank setup similar to Tata cars.
Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG
The Maruti Dzire CNG has a 1.2-litre petrol engine that makes 77hp and 99Nm torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The sedan is priced from Rs 8.44 lakh to Rs 9.12 lakh, and Maruti is in the works of introducing a generational update for the Dzire by this festive season.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx CNG
This model makes use of a 1.2-litre petrol engine, which makes 78hp and 99Nm and comes with a 5-speed MT as standard. It offers a claimed fuel efficiency of 28.51km/kg. The Fronx CNG can be had in either the entry-level Sigma variant or the mid-level Delta trim. Prices start at Rs 8.46 lakh.
Toyota Glanza CNG
The Toyota Glanza also gets a CNG option like the Baleno, the car it is based on. It even has the same 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine as the Baleno. The CNG kit is available with the S and G variants. Prices range from Rs 8.65 lakh to Rs 9.68 lakh.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor CNG
The Toyota Taisor CNG gets the same petrol-CNG option as the Maruti Fronx. However, the Toyota SUV is only available in a single variant, priced at Rs 8.71 lakh. It offers a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 28.5 km/kg.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG
This car comes with a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that generates 88hp and 122Nm of torque in the CNG mode. It gets a 5-speed MT as standard and has a claimed mileage of 25.51km/kg. Prices are in the range of Rs 9.29 lakh–12.26 lakh.
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga CNG
This Maruti MPV uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine, which produces 88hp and 122Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed MT. It offers a mileage of up to 26.11km/kg. Maruti retails the Ertiga CNG between Rs 10.78 lakh and Rs 11.88 lakh.
Toyota Rumion CNG
The Ertiga-based Toyota Rumion offers the same 1.5-litre petrol-CNG option, available in the entry-level variant priced at Rs 11.39 lakh. Just like the Ertiga CNG, the Rumion CNG offers a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 26.11km/kg.
Maruti Suzuki XL6 CNG
The XL6 is essentially a more premium, six-seat version of the Ertiga. The MPV is retailed through Maruti’s Nexa dealerships and gets a CNG option in the Zeta variant, priced at Rs 12.56 lakh. It gets the same 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine as the Ertiga, which churns out 88hp and 122Nm in CNG mode.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG
The carmaker offers CNG options in the Grand Vitara’s Delta and Zeta variants. Prices start at Rs 13.15 lakh. These CNG variants get the same 1.5-litre petrol-CNG powertrain as the Brezza CNG.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG
With a starting price of Rs 13.71 lakh, the Toyota Hyryder CNG is the most premium CNG SUV in India. The CNG kit is available with its 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine, mated to a 5-speed manual. The petrol-CNG powertrain produces 88hp and 122Nm, returning a claimed fuel efficiency of 26.60km/kg.
