Hyundai has introduced three-row version of the Creta called ‘Grand Creta’ in the South African market. The company’s new SUV for South Africa is very similar to the Alcazar sold in India. Like a few other Hyundai products, the Grand Creta will be made-in-India and will be exported to South Africa.
- Hyundai Grand Creta is a made-in-India SUV
- It is quite similar to the Alcazar sold in India
- Will be powered by a 2.0-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel
Hyundai Grand Creta: what’s different?
Essentially, an export version of the Alcazar sold here, the Grand Creta is 200mm longer than the standard 5-seat SUV, and has a 150mm longer wheelbase, allowing for an additional third-row of seats.
South African buyers can opt for either a 159hp, 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine or a 115hp, 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine. A 6-speed manual gearbox will come as standard but buyers can opt for a 6-speed torque-converter automatic. There are two trim levels on offer – Executive and Elite. The Elite trim comes with equipment such as a 360-degree camera, a 10.2-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and 17-inch wheels.
The only visible difference is that the Grand Creta comes with beige and black interior trim, unlike the Alcazar which has brown and black.
Hyundai Alcazar in India
Hyundai launched the Alcazar in the Indian market in June 2021. The three-row SUV rivals the likes of the MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700. Prices for the Alcazar start at Rs 16.3 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Upcoming Hyundai SUVs in India
The company is set to launch four new SUVs in India this year starting with the all-new Tucson premium SUV. The company is also updating its popular Venue and Creta SUVs; both are due to be launched in a few months. Finally, the company will also bring the new Kona EV.
