While Hyundai India MD Seon Seob Kim has confirmed that prices for the Tucson facelift would be revealed at Auto Expo 2020, we can now confirm that the SUV will launch on the first day of the motor show, i.e February 5.

The Hyundai Tucson is currently the brand’s flagship SUV in India and has been on sale in its current third-generation since 2016. One of the most important changes that the mid-cycle update for the Tucson will bring are design tweaks to the exterior that make the SUV look a lot like its siblings. At first glance the stylistic changes may not be obvious but the design of the grille (a larger version of Hyundai’s ‘cascading grille’), headlights (now LED units), the bumper and the tailgate have all been tweaked. New alloy wheel designs are a dead certainty too.

Exact details regarding the new five-seat SUV’s interior have yet to be revealed but expect the same – if not a higher – level of luxury and technology as the recently launched Hyundai Elantra facelift. A new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with an updated interface will be on offer with higher-spec variants of the new SUV, as will the Hyundai’s BlueLink connectivity suite, a 360-degree camera and adaptive cruise control.

Powertrain options are expected to continue from the current model, albeit in BS6 form. The Tucson on sale right now comes with a 155hp/192Nm, 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine and a 185hp/400Nm, 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine. Both have 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options, though only the diesel comes with the option of an all-wheel-drive system.

Prices for the Hyundai Tucson facelift are expected to start at about Rs 20 lakh for the entry-level petrol-manual and go up to Rs 30 lakh for the top-spec diesel-automatic with AWD. In terms of rivals, the Hyundai SUV will go up against the higher versions of the Jeep Compass range, along with the Volkswagen Tiguan and the Honda CR-V.
