Hyundai has unveiled its compact SUV concept called the HND-14. The concept gives a glimpse of a model that will join the Korean carmaker’s India line-up in the future.

Hyundai has not revealed too many details on the HND-14 but has confirmed it is under four metres in length. This would put the production version in competition with models like the Ford EcoSport and the recently revealed Maruti Vitara Brezza.

Styling is a departure from the other Hyundai models of late. There are few curves and the design is more about straight lines and chunky forms. Hyundai’s hexagonal grille finds its way here but the slit-like headlights are unlike other Hyundais. Accentuated wheel arches atop oversized tyres and front and rear scuff plates are elements of note on the concept but are likely to be toned down for production. The glasshouse is large and there’s an interesting kink at the rear doors but the treatment is again not typical Hyundai. There’s an air of robustness to the HND-14’s rear with a chunky tailgate and smart angular tail-lamps.

There’s no word from Hyundai as yet on when we could expect a production version of the HND-14 though any such model is likely to be at least a year away. Stay tuned for updates.
