Indian Oil has launched the country’s first 100 Octane petrol called XP100 targeted at high end cars and bikes. The previous highest Octane rating available was the 99 Octane rated Power 99 offered at select Hindustan Petroluem outlets. The new 100 Octane Indian Oil XP100 is priced at Rs 160 per litre in Delhi - a premium of Rs 77.66 - over the Rs 82.34 per litre price of regular 91 Octane petrol in the national capital.

  • Available at select retailers across 10 cities in Phase 1
  • IOCL targets luxury and sports car owners as buyers of the 100 octane petrol.
  • Priced at Rs 160 per litre in Delhi

To begin with, Indian Oil has said that the XP100 petrol has been made available at select outlets in 10 cities - Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Agra, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad. This number is set to rise to 15 with the company having confirmed that the XP100 petrol will also become available in Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Bhubaneswar from a later date. The cities have been selected the basis of the availability of high-end luxury cars and bikes.

Commenting on the occasion Shrikant Madhav Vaidya, Chairman, IndianOil, said, “XP100 is an ultra-modern, ultra-premium product designed to thrill your senses. It is the finest grade of petrol to give your vehicle higher power & performance and give you a delightful drive.”

The Octane rating for a fuel signifies it’s resistance to knock – a condition under which fuel auto-ignites within an engine due to the heat and pressure within the cylinders. This can be damaging to the engine over time. The higher the Octane rating for a fuel the more resistant it is to this phenomenon. Regular petrol, in comparison, has a 91 Octane rating.
