Jaguar Land Rover has started replacing their aging 2.0-litre turbo-petrol motor with their new Ingenium petrol motor which has a similar capacity. Making an entry in the recently launched Land Rover Velar, the new motor has now made its way to the Jaguar XE and the XF sedans.

As we reported earlier, the new 2.0-litre, four-cylinder Ingenium engine has been completely developed by JLR and is part of its modular Ingenium family. It’s a low-friction, lightweight all-aluminum-intensive design which uses Continuously Variable Valve Lift technology. This improves its power output by 25 percent – while being 15 percent more fuel-efficient at the same time, thanks to its light weight.

Like the outgoing petrol engine, the Ingenium petrol powertrain will be available in various states of tune. While the power figure for the moderate state of tune in the Pure and Prestige variants remains unchanged at 200hp, the same engine in the Portfolio trim churns out 250hp – 10hp more than its previous iteration. In all its variants, the car's engine is mated to a standard eight-speed automatic transmission with sequential shifts.

Surprisingly, while the starting price of the XE has marginally increased by Rs 14,000, the price of the XF petrol has come down by a whopping Rs 1.59 lakh. The same engine is also expected to power other JLR models in the near future. One such model is the upcoming 2018 Range Rover Sport facelift, where it will be equipped with twin-scroll turbo to produce 300hp.
