Mahindra has launched the eVerito, the all-electric avatar of its Verito sedan, at Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This is the Indian carmaker’s second electric car currently on sale, with the first being the Reva e2o. The eVerito has been launched in three trim levels – the base D2 (Rs 9.5 lakh), the mid-spec D4 (Rs 9.75 lakh) and the top-end D6 (Rs 10 lakh). Mahindra has arrived at these prices after considering the state subsidy and FAME scheme incentives offered by the Government.
The sedan’s electric powertrain has an output of 41.4hp and 91Nm of torque, and is capable of propelling the sedan to a top speed of 86kph. The eVerito claims a maximum range of 110km and its 72V lithium-ion battery pack takes 8 hours 45 minutes to be fully charged through a standard 230V 15A outlet. A Fast Charging mode (offered only on top-end D6 variant) allows the battery to attain 80 percent charge in 1 hour 45 minutes.
The eVerito’s battery requires 18 units of electricity to be fully charged. Considering the cost of electricity at Rs 7 per unit, the running cost for the electric car can be as low as Rs 1.15/km. Further lowering the cost is Mahindra’s optional solar charger which can charge the eVerito without the use of any external electric power source.
The ‘Revive’ function gives the car an extra 8km of range when running critically low on power. The car also employs regenerative braking which recharges the car’s batteries when the brakes are applied. It comes with the Telematics feature which keeps track of the car’s vital parameters and allows for remote monitoring and diagnostics.
Following the eVerito, Mahindra is soon to introduce the eSupro – the electric version of its eight-seater Supro van – into its electric car line-up. Coming at a time when the heat is on the tailpipe emission levels of automobiles, and also being exempt from Delhi’s odd-even formula, the electric Mahindras are now a bit more appealing.
