Mahindra has announced that the brand is on track to introduce as many as five born-electric SUVs by October 2026 as announced last year. The company showcased its model range in the United Kingdom on August 15, 2022, and Mahindra announced a commitment of Rs 10,000 crore to the EV business.
- All EVs will utilise Mahindra’s INGLO skateboard platform
- First launch expected by December 2024
- BE.05 EV SUV was recently spied testing in India
Mahindra’s electric future
On Friday, at the company's quarterly results press conference, Rajesh Jejurikar, executive director, Auto & Farm Sectors at the Mahindra Group, said, "We have a very exciting portfolio and it is on track. It is something that is attracting investors into our EV business. We have been able to get a second investor at a much higher valuation."
Singapore-based Equity Fund Temasek recently announced an investment of Rs 1,200 crore into Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited for a 1.49 percent to 2.97 percent stake.
Mahindra’s INGLO skateboard platform
All of the upcoming EVs will be built on Mahindra’s INGLO skateboard platform. The platform will use both Blade and Prismatic cell structures with a battery capacity ranging from 60-80kWh. The architecture will be compatible with fast charging of up to 175kW, which the company claims can charge up to 80 percent in just 30 minutes. Vehicles built on this platform can either be had with a single-motor or dual-motor configuration, allowing for 2WD and 4WD models of the same car.
Interestingly, the platform could also use VW components to save cost, as the two brands reached an agreement for the “evaluation of the scope of collaboration”.
Mahindra XUV.e8
Estimated launch: December 2024
The e8 electric SUV will likely have the same details as the current Mahindra XUV700 that it's based on. This means that the 3-row seating, silhouette and even the layout could be unchanged from the ICE counterpart however it is 45mm longer, 10mm wider and 5mm taller than the XUV700, while the wheelbase will be longer by just 7mm. The XUV.e8 gets an 80kWh battery pack and power figures are expected to range between 230hp and 350hp. The company has stated that it will most likely launch in December 2024.
Mahindra XUV.e9
Estimated launch: April 2025
In May 2021, Mahindra greenlit the development of the coupe version of the XUV700 SUV. This version is likely to be called the XUV900 and will have a sloping roof towards the rear. There will be an EV version of this coupe SUV as well, which will be called the XUV.e9. Powertrain details are expected to be shared with the XUV.e8 SUV, with the only major difference being exterior body styling. The model is expected to break cover by April 2025.
Mahindra BE.05
Estimated launch: October 2025
The BE.05 electric SUV was recently spotted testing in India and we even got a quick peek at the interior when Jejurikar shared its picture on Twitter. This SUV will rival the Tata Curvv that is expected to be launched by 2024. In concept form, the BE.05 is 4.3m in length and we can expect the production version of the SUV to be similarly sized. The SUV is likely to be market ready by October 2025.
Mahindra BE Rall-E
Estimated launch: October 2025
The Mahindra BE Rall-E is a more off-road-focused version of the BE.05 SUV. What differentiates the Rall-E from the BE.05 is that this SUV receives cladding on the body, reprofiled front and rear bumpers, chunky off-road tyres and a roof-mounted carrier with a spare tyre. The electric SUV is expected to be launched around the same time as the BE.05, October 2025.
Mahindra BE.07
Estimated launch: October 2026
At 4.6m, the BE.07 is marginally larger than the BE.05, however, since it’s the same platform, the wheelbase is identical, and it will sit between the XUV700 and Hyundai Creta. It has a large panoramic sunroof, and as far as the interior goes, it has no physical buttons with a large touchscreen spanning the length of the dashboard, which relies on touch and haptic feedback. The BE.07 SUV is expected to be production ready by October 2026.
