The Mumbai police will soon introduce the first batch of TUV300 SUVs to its patrol fleet. The SUV is likely to replace the ageing Mahindra Bolero in the department’s fleet. The Bolero has been the workhorse of the Mumbai police and has been in service for more than a decade, with first-gen and even refreshed models seen on duty on various occasions.

The TUV300 selected by the Mumbai Police department is the T4+ variant that comes with a manual AC, central locking, power windows and manually adjustable wing mirrors. It also gets ABS and dual front airbags as standard. Thanks to the 84hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine, the TUV300 does 0-100kph in around 19 seconds, which is considerably faster than the Mahindra Bolero, whose 63hp, 2.5-litre diesel takes over 25 seconds to the hit the 100kph mark.

As far as fuel economy goes, the TUV300 T4+ delivers 11.4kpl in city and 15.5kpl in highway as opposed to 10.79kpl and 13.34kpl (city and highway) for the Mahindra Bolero (Autocar tested figures).

Some of the exclusive pictures confirm a first batch of the TUV300 SUVs is ready to join the police’s fleet in the near future. While the outsides of the model get police-themed decals, the interiors are expected to sport minor modifications for police use.
