Maruti Celerio X variant breakup revealed
A few days ago, we had reported that Maruti was readying a cross-hatch based on the Celerio for India. Now the mid-life facelift of the Celerio and its crossover variant have been spotted at dealers, indicating the models are ready for launch.
The facelifted Celerio gets a tweaked front bumper, a new grille and sharper headlamps. The Celerio's profile is more or less unchanged, and it gets the same alloy wheels as the pre-facelift model. We can expect a few new touches on the inside, as well as a SmartPlay infotainment system for the top-spec model. The 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine producing 68hp and 90Nm is expected to continue, as is the five-speed manual and the AMT.
The Celerio X, a beefed-up version of the standard hatchback, is expected to share its mechanicals with the standard Celerio. The only differentiators are the black cladding all around, faux roof rails and silver garnish on the bumpers. It also gets the option of an orange exterior shade. The spy shots reveal steel wheel models suggesting that there will be multiple variants of the Celerio X.
The Celerio hatchback rivals the likes of the Renault Kwid, Hyundai Eon and the Datsun Redigo, while the new Celerio X will compete against the Renault Kwid Climber, Mahindra KUV100 and the upcoming Ford Figo Cross.
