Mercedes-Benz has launched the A-class hatchback in India.
The A 180 (codename W176) is being offered with a 122bhp 1.6-litre petrol motor and a 2.2-litre diesel engine good for 109bhp. Both motors send power to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The diesel A-class reaches a top speed of 190kph while the petrol tops out at 202kph.
The A 180 Sport petrol comes equipped with a panoramic sunroof, black diamond pattern trim seats, contrasting topstitching on the door centre panels and armrests. The instrument cluster comes with silver-finish dials.
The Style trim on the A 180 diesel gets sports seats with black matrix-look trim.
The car comes with 17-inch smoked grey alloy wheels and at a length of 4292mm, width of 1780mm and height of 1433mm, is huge for a hatchback. Standard equipment includes Bluetooth connectivity, seven airbags, an ECO start/stop function, adaptive brakes, Attention Assist system, ESP, bi-xenon lamps, and USB and iPod connectivity.
The A-class is the second model off Mercedes’ new front-wheel-drive architecture and the Indian car comes with a raised suspension setup.
