Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the EQE SUV in three trims, and two AMG trims. It will be the German carmaker's eighth electric model and the second most expensive EQ model, sitting below the EQS SUV.

  • All models come with 90.6kWh lithium-ion battery
  • Will be fourth model based on Mercedes' EVA platform
  • Mercedes' Hyperscreen will be available as an option

Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV: platform

The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV will be the fourth car based on the brand’s EVA (electric vehicle architecture) platform, following the EQS sedan, EQE sedan and the EQS SUV.

Standard EQE models get a steel suspension with adaptive damping, and an option to upgrade to air suspension – standard on AMG models. Other developments include electro-mechanical active roll stabilisation and four-wheel steering – the latter turning the rear wheels up to ten degrees (nine degrees on the AMG models).

Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV: powertrain

The entry-level EQE 350+ SUV will come with a single-motor, rear-wheel drive set-up producing 292hp and 565Nm of torque, with a WLTP-certified range of up to 590km. Sitting above this is the EQE 350 4Matic, which also produces 292hp, but has 765Nm of torque and a WLTP range of up to 558km. The EQE 500 4Matic, which is the top model in the non-AMG trim, gets 408hp and 858Nm of torque, and a range of up to 547km on the WLTP cycle. The EQE 350 4Matic and EQE 500 4Matic get a dual-motor, all-wheel drive system as standard.

The Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4Matic+ will also get a Dynamic Plus package.

The Mercedes-AMG version of the SUV has two trims – EQE 43 4Matic and EQE 53 4Matic+ – and both get a dual-motor, all-wheel drive system. The former produces 476hp and 858Nm, with a range of up to 488km on the WLTP cycle. It can accelerate from 0-100kph in a claimed 4.3 seconds and reach a claimed top speed of 210kph.

The top-of-the-range Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4Matic+ produces 625hp and 950Nm of torque. It also gets a Dynamic Plus package that bumps up power to 687hp and 1,000Nm. It can accelerate from 0-100kph in a claimed 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 240kph, with the Dynamic Plus package.

All models are equipped with a 90.6kWh lithium-ion battery that supports up to 170kW of DC fast charging speeds.

Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV: exterior and interior

Stylistically, it adheres closely to the look established by the larger EQS SUV, albeit with a more heavily sloped roofline and angled tailgate. AMG models receive their own individual styling cues, including a new-look Panamerica-style grille, restyled bumpers and unique wheel designs.

The five-seat SUV will get a choice of two different dashboard layouts. The flagship ‘Hyperscreen’, which supports up to three individual displays in a single 1,410mm-wide fascia panel, is set to be made available as a high-cost option.

The displays operate in combination with Mercedes-Benz’s in-house MBUX operating system, which offers conversational speech commands via a “Hey Mercedes” prompt as well as over-the-air software update functionality via an embedded SIM card.

Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV: rivals

The EQE SUV will rival the soon-to-be-refreshed Audi e-tron, and the BMW iX electric SUVs. While both its rivals are available in India, there is no confirmation on when the EQE will be available here.
