Mercedes-Benz India has announced that it has managed to sell 2,386 units during the January-March 2020 (Q1) period. This figure has been achieved despite the logistical issues caused by the nationwide lockdown imposed on March 25 – which will go on till May 3 – to tackle the COVID-19 crisis.

It is, however, worth noting that, when compared to Q1 2019’s sales of 3,885 units, this year’s figures are noticeably lower; the year on year figures have dropped by 38.6 percent.

Due to the current situation caused by the coronavirus, Mercedes-Benz has started strengthening it online sales platform, which it originally launched in late 2019. While the digital platform currently only allows customers to purchase pre-owned Mercedes-Benz cars and get it delivered to their homes, it will soon be made available for new models as well. The German luxury carmaker expects a large part of its total sales to come completely from its online platform by 2025.

Mercedes has also planned a number of new launches – like the next-gen GLA, A-class sedan, new GLS and all-electric EQC SUV – over the course of 2020, while the AMG GT 4-door Coupe, V-class Marco Polo, GLC Coupe and GLE have already been launched.
