Just days ago, the MG Hector facelift was spied sans camouflage, giving us a first undisguised look at the front fascia of the updated SUV. Now, ahead of its official debut later next month or by January 2023, the exterior design of the MG Hector facelift has been leaked in full.

  • Hector facelift to get redesigned front and rear fascia
  • Will get completely new interior with 14-inch touchscreen
  • Expected to remain mechanically unchanged

MG Hector facelift: exterior design revealed in full

The updated MG Hector features a completely redesigned front fascia with sharp lines and well-defined angles. The grille has considerably grown in size and now stretches further down in the bumper. It features a new diamond-like pattern along with an angular chrome surround that neatly merges with the high-mounted LED Daytime Running Lamps.

As before, the Hector continues with a split-headlamp design, but the main headlamp cluster gets a new pentagonal housing that also echoes the shape of the grille, with the chrome brackets around the headlamps making way for new gloss black inserts. The front chin has also been redesigned with a chrome surround for the central air intake instead of the silver finish on the current model. The Hector facelift, however, remains completely unchanged in profile – even the 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels are identical to the current model.

At the rear, the updated Hector gets a new tail-lamp assembly with a redesigned red strip connecting the lamps at either end, and the name ‘Hector’ now spelt out below the number plate housing. The rear bumper has also been redesigned with new angular creases. The dual-tone black and silver treatment on the current model has made way for a cleaner design with subtle new chrome inserts.

The Hector facelift does not seem to feature any major sheet metal changes as that is more expensive, and cosmetic updates are mostly limited to the soft plastic parts.

MG Hector facelift: interior and features

MG had previously revealed the interior of the Hector facelift, where it gets a completely revised dashboard with a huge 14-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen – the largest among any mass-market car in India. It will also get the next-gen i-Smart tech, an all-new digital instrument cluster and ADAS functionality – the latter confirmed by the badge on the tail gate. You can read more about it here.

MG Hector facelift: engine options

The MG Hector facelift, however, will remain mechanically unchanged to the current model. That means it will continue with two 143hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines – one with mild hybrid technology – and a 170hp, 2.0-litre diesel unit. Gearbox options are also expected to remain the same.

MG Hector facelift: positioning and rivals

With a considerable step-up in features, the Hector facelift, as we have reported before, will likely be offered in fewer trims. As for rivals, it will continue to compete with the likes of the Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari.
