Mumbai now gets the highest octane-rated petrol in India, with Hindustan Petroleum (HP) launching its premium Power 99 petrol at the company’s Auto Care Centre retail outlet at NS Road. The fuel, which has an octane rating of 99, is targeted at high-end cars and two-wheelers to help increase their engine life. Power 99 is already available in Bengaluru and Pune, where it has received a good market response.
According to the company, Power 99 can withstand a greater rise in temperature during the compression stroke of an internal combustion engine without auto-ignition, which will then result in lower engine knocking and damage. This makes it an ideal fuel choice for high-performance cars and two-wheelers. It is also claimed to reduce equipment failure, it does not contain any harmful heavy metals and sees reduction in emissions due to superior combustion of the fuel. The company says that Power 99 can also be used in other types of vehicles.
HP’s sales research has revealed that 93 percent of motorists in India use normal or regular petrol and the balance rest 7 percent use premium petrol. Regular petrol in metro cities has an octane rating of 91 and those looking for higher octane fuel could find up to 97 octane at certain fuel pumps.
