Audi is gearing up to bring its second-generation A5 to India on October 5, 2017. The A5 is based on the same platform as the A4 and will be available for the first time in three body styles - Coupe, Sportback and Cabriolet. The Sportback is a four-door variant that offers more practicality than the A4 sedan. The new model, which will be the carmaker's ninth launch this year, will slot in between the A4 and the A6 in Audi's India line-up.
In international markets, the entry-level A5 is offered with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol motor making 190hp and 320Nm of torque and a 2.0-litre, four-pot, turbo-diesel engine producing 190hp and 400Nm of twisting force. The engines are mated to a six-speed manual with the option of a seven-speed automatic transmission.
The higher-spec S5 and RS5 for the second generation model may also come to India. The S5 is powered by a 354hp/500Nm, 3.0-litre, turbocharged V6 motor. The range-topping RS5 will only be available as a Coupe with a 2.9-litre, twin-turbo V6 motor tuned to produce 450hp and 600Nm. The S5 and RS5 have their engines mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that deliver power to all-four-wheels through Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system.
The A5 Sportback and Coupe do not have any direct rivals in India, but the A5 Cabriolet takes on the Mercedes-Benz C 300 Cabriolet.
