The 2020 Mahindra Thar bookings have crossed the 20,000 mark, just a month after its launch on October 2, 2020. Demand for the new Mahindra Thar 4x4 continues to be strong – the brand received over 9,000 bookings five days after 2020 Thar prices were revealed and now, an additional 5,000 orders in the past 2 weeks.

2020 Mahindra Thar variants in-demand
Mahindra claims that the hard-top variants of the 2020 Thar – available as an optional extra on the lower-spec Thar AX (Rs 12.20 lakh) and as standard on the higher-spec Thar LX (Rs 12.49-13.75 lakh) – have seen the greater response.
In LX form, the 2020 Thar is available with the choice of a 152hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol or a 132hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine, both with manual and automatic gearbox options; all seem to be in-demand. Here’s more on what else is available with each variant of the Thar.
2020 Mahindra Thar delivery details
Due to the excellent response the second-generation Thar received, Mahindra dealers and customers have been notified that waiting periods will now range between five and seven months, depending on the variant.
However, there’s good news for at least 500 buyers who have already booked the new Thar. The brand has plans to deliver over 500 units during the coming Diwali weekend.
2020 Mahindra Thar production to increase
Mahindra has also announced that, in order to meet demand, it will ramp up production of the Thar 4x4. The capacity to be set aside for the 2020 Thar’s production will increase by over 30 percent, from 2,000 units a month to 3,000. The SUV specialist hopes to achieve this increase by January 2021.
For now, the Thar is absolutely unique with no direct rivals. Come 2021, Mahindra’s 4x4 will see competition from the next-gen Force Gurkha and the 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
