Land Rover has introduced a new 2.0-litre petrol engine on the Range Rover Sport in India. The engine is the smallest to power the Sport in the country, though you’d be mistaken to assume power is insufficient – max power and torque figures stand at 300hp and 400Nm, respectively. A twin scroll turbocharger holds the key to the all-aluminium engine’s impressive power output. Performance is fairly good too, with Land Rover claiming a 0-100kph time of 7.1 seconds for this version of the Range Rover Sport. Top speed is claimed to be in excess of 200kph.
The 2.0-litre engine powering this Range Rover Sport belongs to Jaguar Land Rover’s Ingenium engine family. Interestingly enough, the very same version also powers the Jaguar F-Type P300 that launched in India last year. Jaguar Land Rover sees a long term shift in favour of petrols and has been upgrading its line-up with engines from its in-house Ingenium range. Earlier this year, JLR had also announced plans to introduce hybrid options in India within 2019.
Prices for the Range Rover Sport 2.0 petrol start at Rs 86.71 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The SUV is on offer in three trim levels, namely S, SE and HSE. The Range Rover Sport can also be had with 3.0-litre and 4.4-litre diesel engines while a 5.0-litre, supercharged petrol tops off the range.
