The new Skoda Fabia, which is on sale only in overseas markets, has been given a five-star rating by Euro NCAP. Fourteen hatchbacks underwent the latest series of Euro NCAP crash tests, out of which the Fabia was the only one to secure five stars with the highest rating. It is now being endorsed as the safest small car (European market segments).

The Euro NCAP evaluation is based on the results of categories like passenger protection for adults and children, pedestrian protection and supporting safety systems. "With innovative safety systems and a comprehensive safety package, our new model is setting standards in its segment. Receiving the award for being the safest small car in the Euro NCAP crash tests confirms this once again," said Dr Frank Welsch, Skoda Board Member for Technical Development. The Skoda Fabia got top ratings from Euro NCAP in all four evaluation categories, namely passenger protection for adults, child safety, safety assistance systems and pedestrian protection. The highest score was given for the protection of infants up to 18 months.

In terms of safety features, the Fabia gets tech like cruise control and a multi-collision brake, which reduces the risk of a subsequent crash following a collision on the road. It also comes with optional hill assistance, driver fatigue recognition, speed limiter and electronic tyre pressure monitoring system. As for the airbags, there are six of them – front, side and head. A high-strength body and optimised crumple zones add to the safety blanket of the Fabia
