We’ve been reporting on the Harrier with a sunroof and an automatic gearbox for a while now – last year in September, we got spy shots that showed this version of Tata’s five-seat SUV was nearly ready. Tata has now officially confirmed that these two changes will be introduced on the Harrier soon, most likely at Auto Expo 2020.
The teaser shows an automatic gearbox, with a manual mode – this is the Hyundai-sourced 6-speed torque convertor unit that we’ve been talking about since the Harrier had launched in January last year. The gearbox will be paired with as BS6-compliant version of the current FCA-sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine that is expected to get a 30hp bump in power too – up from 140hp.
The panoramic sunroof is expected to be standard on a new range-topping variant of the Harrier SUV. Sitting above the current top-spec XZ Dual-Tone variant (priced at Rs 17.31 lakh), the new Harrier XZ+ will also get larger 18-inch alloy wheels. While the teaser confirms this new trim is expected get all the kit available on the more expensive versions of the Harrier – such as drive modes – it is also expected to get kit like a tyre pressure monitoring system.
At the moment, Tata Harrier prices range between Rs 13.44 lakh and Rs 17.31 lakh. With the upgrade to BS6 norms and the addition of an automatic, the price range will widen, with the entry-level manual versions costing about Rs 1 lakh more and the top-spec Harrier automatics costing a Rs 1.5 lakh premium over the current top-spec trim.
Prices are ex-showroom, Delhi
