While the return of the Sierra SUV was confirmed at Auto Expo 2023 in January, the project now seems to have moved a few steps further as seen in this patent image of what looks like the SUV in production spec. The Sierra SUV is slated to make a comeback in 2025, and it will come with both electric as well as with internal combustion powertrain options.
Tata Sierra EV: what do the patent images show?
The patent image that has surfaced online confirm that the new Tata Sierra’s looks will not be much different from what we saw on the Auto Expo concept. The nose stays upright, and gets a distinct line segregating the front bumper, faux skid plate and wide grille. The headlamp setup seems to be split in two, with the main headlamps positioned just above the grille. Like with almost every new Tata SUV, the Tata Sierra seems to get a wide LED lightbar positioned at the top of the nose. A large Tata logo sits between the light bar and grille, while the flat bonnet merges neatly with the light bar and gets two vertical creases at each end.
On the sides, the rectangular wheel arches continue with contrast body cladding. The production-spec Sierra seems to get more body cladding on the doors and on the running boards that merge with cladding on both wheel arches. Both doors get unique creases that connect the wheels and there is a strong shoulder line starting from the rear door and continuing onto the fender, merging with the tail-lamps.
Meanwhile, the glasshouse seems to be the same as the concept with the B-pillar getting a unique design. The quarterglass positioned behind the rear door also gets unique design touches, which do look similar to the ones seen on the facelifted Harrier and Safari. The new Tata Sierra's rear styling is not visible in the patent image, however, we expect it to resemble the concept but with more realistic touches on the rear bumper, tail-lamp area and a few other places.
Tata Sierra EV: what else is known?
While there are not any fresh details known about the SUV's powertrain options, we can confirm that it will get an EV option. Plus, just like what Tata Motors is planning for the Curvv, the Sierra could launch as an EV first, followed by its ICE version a little later.
For now, Tata Motors has its hands full with market launches of the Punch EV, Harrier EV and the Curvv. Expect more details on the new Sierra to be revealed closer to its market launch, which will take place in 2025.
