The Tata Tiago has received an update that adds key safety features across the range. With this update, dual airbags, rear parking sensors, a speed alert system and seatbelt warning for the driver and co-driver have become standard fit. While dual airbags were offered as an option on the base and mid-spec variants previously, some of the other safety features were only available on higher trim levels. Tata Motors had standardised ABS and EBD across the Tiago range earlier in 2019.

The move from Tata comes in anticipation of the July 1, 2019 deadline for carmakers to provide a driver-side airbag, rear parking sensors, speed alert and seatbelt reminder systems as standard for all their models. A similar upgrade for the Tata Tigor compact sedan is expected soon.

The updated Tata Tiago range starts at Rs 4.40 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), which translates into a hike of roughly Rs 13,000 for the base variant.

The Tiago gets the choice of an 85hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 70hp, 1.05-litre diesel motor, though the latter is set to be axed before the BS6 emission norms come into effect in April 2020. Both engines get a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, and an AMT is also available with the petrol engine.
