Toyota has revised the prices of its lifestyle pickup, the Hilux. It is available in two trims – Standard and High – where the former received a price cut and the latter has seen a price hike.

  1. Toyota Hilux bookings reopened earlier this year without a price revision
  2. It only competes with the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross

Toyota Hilux revised prices

With the revision, prices for the Toyota Hilux now start at Rs 30.40 lakh (ex-showroom), witnessing a reduction of Rs 3.59 lakh. However, the High MT and High AT variants see a price hike of Rs 1.35 lakh and Rs 1.10 lakh, respectively. With the hike, prices for the Hilux now top out at Rs 37.90 lakh (ex-showroom). Earlier this year, Toyota had opened bookings for the second batch of the Hilux with no revisions to its pricing.

Toyota Hilux exterior design and dimensions

In India, the Hilux is offered with a double-cab body style. Up front, the Hilux gets a large hexagonal chrome grille and swept-back LED headlamps. In profile, it gets beefy, black plastic cladding over the wheel arches to add to its rugged, off-road appeal. At the back, the design is basic and the Hilux looks like a conventional pickup truck but it gets a heavy dose of chrome.

Measuring 5,325mm in length, 1,855mm in width, 1,815mm in height and with a wheelbase of 3,085mm, the Hilux is one of the biggest vehicles on sale in India.

Toyota Hilux interior and features

Inside, the Hilux shares a fair few bits such as the trim and switchgear with the Fortuner. While the dashboard layout is slightly different, it gets the same touchscreen, climate control panel, instrument cluster, steering wheel and the front seats.

The Hilux comes loaded with an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery, seven airbags, front and rear parking sensors, electrochromic inside rear-view mirror, tyre angle monitor, active traction control and automated limited-slip differential.

Toyota Hilux powertrain and platform

Apart from the design, the Hilux and Fortuner also share the same underpinnings. Both are based on Toyota’s IMV ladder-frame chassis and are powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine producing 204hp and 420Nm of torque (500Nm with the automatic gearbox). The engine is paired to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The Hilux gets four-wheel drive as standard along with a low-range gearbox as well as front and rear electronic differential locks.

Toyota Hilux rivals

Being in a unique segment of lifestyle pickup trucks in the market, the Hilux’s closest rival is the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross which is priced between Rs 23 lakh-Rs 27 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
