Volkswagen has launched a limited-run Sport edition of the Polo GT. The GT Sport features cosmetic changes to the exterior and cabin to set it apart from the standard GT and is available in both petrol and diesel engines.

On the outside, the car gets a black-finished roof-mounted spoiler, along with a black roof and graphics running along the lower door panels. The model sits on new 16-inch Portago alloy wheels. The GT Sport is available in two colour options – Flash Red and Candy White.

Inside the cabin, the car gets new black leatherette seat covers with GT embossing as compared to the standard GT’s dual-tone seat upholstery. Equipment levels are otherwise unchanged from the standard GT.

Under the hood, the car shares its mechanicals with the standard Polo GT – a 105hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a seven-speed DSG gearbox and a 110hp, 1.5-litre diesel paired with a five-speed manual gearbox.

While there is no official pricing yet, dealers are quoting an additional cost of Rs 20,000 over and above the cost of the standard Polo GT.

With the rising competition in the hot hatch segment fuelled further by Fiat Punto Evo Abarth and the recently introduced Maruti Baleno RS, the launch of the Polo GT Sport is a move by Volkswagen to increase desirability of its hot hatch by providing a sportier derivative of its rather plain-looking car.
