Despite the rising popularity of SUVs, MPVs still appeal to those with large families requiring a practical people mover. Next year, Toyota is launching the new Innova Hycross, and a facelifted Innova Crysta. In the premium MPV space, Kia will launch the new generation of the Carnival. Here are all the details of the three new MPVs headed our way.

    New Kia Carnival

Globally, the new fourth-generation Carnival is offered with two engine options – a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel unit producing 201hp and 440Nm and a 3.5-litre petrol V6 engine churning out 296hp and 355Nm. India will likely get only the diesel powertrain, which is also found in the current Carnival. The fourth-gen Carnival has also received a 5-star Australian NCAP rating

Cosmetically, the fourth-gen Carnival has more angular lines and a squared-off stance. It gets a sharper front grille flanked by slimmer headlights. At the rear, it gets a full-width LED light bar and a chrome strip that merges into the chrome accent on the C pillar.

The fourth-gen Carnival is offered in 7-, 9- and 11-seat configurations. For reference, the current Carnival is offered in 6-, 7- and 8-seat configurations. The new Carnival will also get two 12.3-inch displays – one for the instrument cluster and one for the infotainment system. It is also longer than the model it replaces, with a longer wheelbase and rear overhang, which translates into more space in the second and third rows.

    Coming: April 2023
    Engines: 2.2-litre diesel
    Expected Price: Rs 30 lakh

    Toyota Innova Crysta facelift

The Crysta will likely get a slight visual makeover to keep it fresh, with Toyota expected to sell it alongside the Innova Hycross. The former’s rugged ladder frame set-up appeals to some consumers, especially the fleet segment. The 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine – which is currently unavailable – is also set to return as even this appeals to the fleet segment.

    Coming:February 2023
    Engines: 2.4-litre diesel
Expected Price: Rs 18 lakh-23 lakh
