Hyundai will have a major presence at the upcoming Auto Expo 2023 which starts on January 11 in Greater Noida. The carmaker will have a slew of existing and new model showcases along with some concept cars. While the all-electric Ioniq 5 will be one of the showstoppers for Hyundai, we can confirm that the South Korean brand will also showcase the recently unveiled Ioniq 6 electric sedan at the Delhi Motor show.

Hyundai Ioniq 6: what is it?

The Ioniq 6 is Hyundai’s third EV offering globally with the other two being the Kona EV (already on sale in India) and the Ioniq 5. It saw a global unveiling back in June this year and was previewed by the Hyundai Prophecy concept that had also made its way to India at the last Auto Expo. The Ioniq 6 uses the brand’s E-GMP skateboard architecture, which also underpins the Kia EV6, allowing for scalable battery sizes, rear- or all-wheel drive, a flat floor and EV-specific proportions.

Essentially a stylish full-electric sedan, the Ioniq 6 gets multiple long curves and creases along with an aerodynamic silhouette. The brand claims that the Ioniq 6, with all its design elements, has a drag coefficient of just 0.21, which is helped by flush door handles and cameras in place of traditional wing mirrors. At the rear, the Ioniq 6 gets pixel-style LED tail-lights, a ducktail rear spoiler and a curved shoulder line, similar to the concept.

On the inside, the Ioniq 6 features a flat centre console, as seen on other EV products by the brand, and the Genesis GV60 SUV sold overseas. The minimalist dashboard houses a pair of dual 12-inch touchscreens and a two-spoke steering wheel.

Hyundai Ioniq 6: dimensions, powertrain, range

Measuring 4,855mm in length, 1,880mm in width, 1,495mm in height and with a wheelbase of 2,950mm, the Ioniq 6 is a close match in size to the Tesla Model 3, Polestar 2 and BMW i4.

The Ioniq 6 comes with two battery size options – the entry-level 53kWh and the larger 77kWh (also available on the Ioniq 5). Single motor RWD set-up will be standard with higher variants getting dual motor AWD option as well. The Ioniq 6 Dual Motor makes 320hp and 605Nm, which is the same as the Ioniq 5, while the RWD set-up churns out 228hp and 350Nm.

As far as WLTP-certified range goes, the Ioniq 6 does 429km for the RWD 53kWh version, the RWD with 77.4kWh does 614km, while the AWD delivers 583km.

    Hyundai’s EV plans for India

The first-gen Kona EV is currently on sale in the Indian market, with the Ioniq 5 being the second EV that will go on sale in January. As far as the Ioniq 6 goes, Hyundai hasn’t announced its launch plans for India, and its showcase at the Auto Expo 2023 will be used to gauge consumer interest.
