Isuzu MU-7 automatic to be launched soon

    Standard Isuzu MU-7.

Isuzu is all set to launch an automatic variant of its MU-7 SUV in India. The Japanese carmaker currently has a five speed manual version on offer that rivals the Toyota Fortuner, SsangYong Rexton, Ford Endeavour and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.

The MU-7 SUV is powered by a 2,999cc, four-cylinder common-rail turbo-diesel engine sending 161bhp and 36.7 kgm of torque to the rear wheels, and this powertrain is likely to be retained for the automatic version, with no 4x4 option.

The MU-7’s huge length is one of its biggest strengths, and at 4,955mm in length, the car is substantially longer than, say, the Fortuner. Features on offer include leather seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 10-speaker audio system, reversing camera, ABS with EBD, two airbags, remote locking, a trip computer, electric mirrors and projector headlamps and faux wood paneling among others.

The carmaker will be hoping to give sales a push through the launch of the automatic version of the MU-7. The manual variant has managed to sell just over 260 units in the past year. The MU-7 SUV is presently available in two trims, Base and High that carry a price tag of Rs 21.83 lakh and Rs 23.90 lakh respectively (both prices, ex-showroom Dehi), and hopefully, Isuzu will keep the price of the automatic version under the Rs 25 lakh mark.
