Kia Syros to have a unique take on compact SUV
Kia India is trying to position the Syros as a unique product in the crowded compact SUV segment. It features a boxy design with a flat roof and an upright rear, in order to liberate maximum cabin space.
Some styling cues on the Syros remind us of other Kia models like the flagship EV9 SUV and the Carnival MPV. A distinctive feature is the window line that rises up with a sharp kink for the rear quarter glass area. The break in the window line at the B-pillar, finished in body colour, is reminiscent of the erstwhile Skoda Yeti.
The Syros will come with a five-seat interior layout, and it will be big on space – both rows and cargo area included. Equipment such as a panoramic sunroof, ADAS and other segment-rivalling features can be expected. Kia will first introduce the Syros with a petrol engine. An EV will join the line-up in the latter half of next year.
The Syros has its competition cut out for its size and the price point it will be available at. It will see competition from the Skoda Kylaq, which will go on sale next week, along with a barrage of other compact SUVs, including the likes of the Venue, Nexon, XUV 3XO and Brezza.
The Kia Syros will be shown to the general public for the first time at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Show in New Delhi in January.
