Volkswagen and Mahindra have confirmed their partnership on sharing EV components for future models. Both brands had signed a term sheet in 2022, which stated that Volkswagen's MEB architecture would be used by Mahindra's INGLO-based EVs. Today, there's an official confirmation from both brands that takes this partnership to the next level.
- Both brands have been exploring partnership since 2022
- Mahindra INGLO-based SUV will launch in early 2025
- VW will also supply MEB components to Mahindra
Mahindra will import its batteries from VW, however, we are told that both partners are open and keen to explore local manufacturing as well, although this still remains undecided.
The supply agreement will run over several years and will have a total volume of about 50GWh over its lifetime, according to the release. The first INGLO platform-based born EV will go into series production from December 2024.
Additionally, the announcement also says some MEB platform-based EV components will be supplied to Mahindra for its born EV line-up. However, no further details have been shared.
As we've reported earlier, besides the supply of EV components, Mahindra and Volkswagen are also exploring further cooperation, including platform sharing, which would not be limited to just India.
Mahindra currently has the XUV400 EV on sale in India and its first born EV based on the INGLO platform will go on sale sometime in early 2025. The Volkswagen Group will introduce the Skoda Enyaq EV in India later this year.
