We'd first reported last week that Mahindra was set to introduce a special edition of its XUV500 SUV. Now, Mahindra has officially launched the XUV500 Sportz, a limited edition of its SUV, at Rs 13.85 lakh (ex showroom, New Delhi). The special edition is based on the range-topping XUV W8 model and is priced at a premium of Rs 26,000 over the W8.

The Sportz variant gets additional features over the standard car like ‘Sportz’ decals, rear-view camera, new alloys with red inserts, red inserts for foglights and door handles, and a ‘Sportz’ badge at the rear. Mahindra will only manufacture 1,000 units of the XUV500 Sportz.

Under the hood, the XUV500 Sportz remains unchanged from the standard car and is powered by the same 2.2-litre diesel engine good for 140bhp and 34kgm of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission which sends power to the front wheels.

At the launch, Vivek Nayer, chief marketing officer, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra said, “This new offering of XUV500 Sportz aligns with our leadership position in Indian motorsports and rallying and reflects our Sporty DNA very well. We believe that it will create a new benchmark in exclusivity to further enhance the XUV500′s appeal amongst customers.”
