A few months following the the BE.05 will be the launch of the Mahindra XUV.e9, which is expected to appeal to a completely different audience. Essentially the coupe version of the XUV700 with an electric powertrain, the e9 is aimed at executives who want the space, comfort and practicality of an SUV in a stylish package.

    1. Mahindra XUV.e9 to get coupe-SUV body style
    2. Powertrain expected to be shared with the BE.05
    3. Expected to debut Mahindra's three-screen interior setup

The XUV.e9 stands out with a massive faux grille and a techy-looking headlight cluster. Again, there is liberal use of piano black to give a premium feel, while the coupe body style also separates the e9 from other SUVs in its class.

The electric powertrain will be similar to the BE.05’s, though it is likely to be rear-wheel-drive only, given the customer base this executive electric SUV is aimed at. The e9 is expected to debut a new three-screen display, which includes a dedicated screen for the front passenger. As Mahindra had displayed at an event in August 2023, the three screens will be 12.3-inch units with a 1920x720 display, Liquid Optically Clear Adhesive (LOCA) bonding and a Oleophobic (anti-smudge) coating.

While most interior bits are carried over from the XUV700, expect a lot more tech and features in the electrified version.

Mahindra’s fresh stab at the EV market comes at a time when demand for electric vehicles is cooling down due to infrastructure challenges and growing buyer scepticism. After the poor response to the XUV400, Mahindra is pulling out all the stops to ensure its new ‘Born Electric’ range makes a stronger impact. Price is a weapon that Mahindra has used with great effect, and you can expect the XUV.e9 and the BE.05 to shock the competition with an aggressive sticker price that the company hopes will also spark renewed confidence in the EV market.
