With 2023 coming to a close, McLaren has unveiled its GTS, which was earlier known as the GT. Along with the new moniker, McLaren has managed to uprate the V8 engine, shed a few kilos and upgrade some features. The refreshed GTS’ top speed remains similar to the McLaren GT, as does the 0-100kph time.

    1. GTS looks similar to the GT but gets an updated V8
    2. Sports new diffuser setup and other minor cosmetic changes
    3. Nose-lift system now works twice as fast

    McLaren GTS engine, chassis

The GTS features an enhanced 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine – McLaren has managed to squeeze out 15hp extra – that now delivers 635hp, while maintaining the substantial 630Nm of torque that was produced by the GT’s unit. The brand has also managed to reduce overall weight by 10kg, while keeping the MonoCell II-T carbon-fibre monocoque chassis. This weight reduction contributes to the improved power-to-weight ratio of 418hp/tonne, an improvement compared to the earlier 405hp/tonne.

    McLaren GTS features

One of the key improvements on the GTS is the optimisation of the optional nose-lift system that offers up to 130mm of ground clearance. The nose lift or drop process takes 4 seconds – about twice as fast as its predecessor. Furthermore, the hydraulic power steering has received a GTS-specific setup to facilitate better low-speed manoeuvrability and other challenging situations.

    McLaren GTS interior, exterior

The exterior alterations are quite subtle. You can see a redesigned front bumper featuring more pronounced air intakes and heightened vents at the rear, aimed for better cooling. The GTS also gets a new diffuser setup. The brand has introduced new 10-spoke forged ‘Turbine’ wheels that are shod in custom-made Pirelli P Zero tyres – 225mm wide at the front and 295mm wide at the rear.

On the inside, the cabin boasts new leather seats, a glass tailgate, a 10.25-inch instrument display, ambient lighting and a 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system. For those seeking additional flair, there are various optional packages that offer specific carbon fibre trims around the vehicle alongside the standard carbon fibre roof panel that is on offer. One can also exchange the roof panel for an electrochromic glass sunroof.

    McLaren GTS price, rivals

The McLaren GTS rivals the likes of the Bentley Continental GT V8 and Porsche 911 Turbo S in international markets. The British brand has yet to officially reveal prices of the GTS in India, however, if it arrives, it is expected to be priced slightly above the GT, which was priced at about Rs 4.59 crore (ex-showroom).
