The Mercedes-AMG One has set a new fastest lap for production cars at the Nurburgring, beating the previous record by 8 seconds.
- It also sets the record for the super-sports car category.
- The hypercar makes a total power of 1,062hp.
- Only 275 models will ever be made.
The 1,062hp hypercar recorded a time of 6 minutes and 35.183 seconds around the 156-corner circuit, driven by Mercedes DTM driver Maro Engel on October 28. This lap time also set the record for the super-sportscar category.
The previous production car lap record was held by the Porsche 911 GT2 RS Manthey-Racing, with a time of 6 minutes and 43.30 seconds. The outright Nurburgring Nordschleife lap record, however, still remains with the all-electric, one-off Volkswagen ID R, which lapped the circuit in 6 minutes and 5.336 seconds.
Mercedes-AMG confirmed that the car used for the record was the same as the standard spec. Often referred to as the Formula 1 car for the road, the £2.2 million (over Rs 22 crore) hypercar is the most powerful Mercedes-AMG road car ever made. It combines a modified version of the firm’s 1.6-litre, V6 turbocharged grand prix engine with four electric motors for a total output of 1,062hp.
The AMG One is the result of a close collaboration between Mercedes-AMG’s regular road car operation and the UK-based Mercedes-AMG F1 team and AMG High Performance Powertrains division. It is available in a two-seat, left-hand-drive guise only and just 275 models will ever be made.
