Volkswagen has released the first set of images and details of the third-generation Tiguan SUV, which will see a global debut in the coming months, and will go on sale in Europe first by early 2024. Volkswagen currently sells the second-generation model in India.
- Higher variants of Tiguan to get ventilated seats
- Will come with 15-inch infotainment screen
- Will have the same 2,681mm wheelbase
New Volkswagen Tiguan styling and dimensions
The next-gen Tiguan seen in the images shared by Volkswagen is in complete camouflage, and while most design details are hidden, it still gives us an idea of what it will look like. The new Tiguan surely looks much less boxy than the current model, thanks to a more rounded silhouette. According to VW, the SUV is now 32mm longer at 4,551mm, and is 5mm higher at 1,640mm, but sits on the same wheelbase at 2,681mm.
Volkswagen says the new Tiguan will be more practical too. Cargo room on offer has gone up by 33 litres, along with more headroom and legroom for the front and rear passengers. Higher variants will get ventilated and massaging seats as well.
It will come with an HD Matrix headlight set-up like the recently updated Touareg SUV where the high beam would illuminate the road ahead by up to 500 metres. What can also be expected is a full-width LED lightbar at the back, which has now become a design detail in most VW SUVs, including the Taigun that’s sold here in India.
New VW Tiguan interior and features
While no clear images of the upcoming Tiguan’s interior have been shared, a touchscreen set-up, similar to a large tablet is visible in some of the teaser images. This actually looks identical to the one seen on the recently revealed VW ID.7 electric sedan which could point to a 15-inch set-up. Additionally, Volkswagen will install a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a new windscreen head-up display to replace the pop-out HUD set-up of the outgoing Tiguan.
There isn’t much clarity on what powertrains will be offered with the next-gen Tiguan, but the line-up will include a slew of petrol, petrol plug-in hybrid and diesels engines, depending on the market. There will be front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive options as always.
While VW has shared details about the standard-wheelbase Tiguan only, we can confirm that the Tiguan Allspace will be replaced by an all-new Tayron SUV. Read more on that here.
