The Volkswagen Group has globally recalled 3,91,000 VW Touaregs and 4,09,477 Porsche Cayennes, built between 2011 and 2016, due to a faulty pedal mechanism globally. Both the models are built on the same underpinnings which explain why the problem is common to both the cars.
In an official statement, the VW Group said the recall was necessary because, “A clip could be loose on the bearing bracket for pedals”. The statement also said, "The problem was found during internal inspections and remedied in the ongoing series. Vehicle owners will be contacted directly by the Porsche dealer responsible for them." A free-of-charge workshop appointment will be arranged to fix the issue within half an hour.
The recall though does not seem to affect the models being sold in India with dealers saying that no recall on the above two SUVs is in effect.
