Sub-2-litre Mahindra Scorpio gets Intelli-Hybrid tech

Mahindra has introduced its patented 'Intelli-Hybrid' technology on the 1.99-litre engine variant of the Scorpio for Delhi-NCR.

Available at a starting price of Rs 9.35 lakh for the base S4 model, the new variant is on sale now and will benefit from a concessional value-added tax of 5 percent in Delhi. It translates into a benefit of Rs 60,000- Rs 90,000, depending on the variant purchased.

Speaking about the introduction of the Scorpio with Intelli-Hybrid in Delhi and NCR, Pravin Shah, president and chief executive (automotive), Mahindra & Mahindra, said, “Intelli-Hybrid demonstrates our commitment to making modern technology more accessible to a wider audience. As an organisation that puts keen emphasis on sustainability and eco-friendly practices across every process and product, we are delighted to introduce mild-hybrid technology on the Scorpio.”

According to the manufacturer, the Intelli-Hybrid technology reduces fuel consumption by up to 7 percent. It assists the engine with electric power during acceleration, automatically switching the engine off within three seconds of the vehicle being stationary (start-stop) and reusing brake energy, which would otherwise be wasted, to charge the battery. Intelli-Hybrid is available on the following variants of the Scorpio with the 1.99-litre engine: S4, S4+, S4+ 4wd, S6+, S8, S10-2WD (Manual Transmission) and S10- 4WD (Manual Transmission).

The Scorpio has become the third vehicle in India to be equipped with mild hybrid technology, when it was launched on the 2.2-litre engine models in July. Maruti introduced its own mild hybrid SHVS system on the Ciaz sedan in September last year, followed by an SHVS variant of the Ertiga in April this year. Both the Ciaz and the Ertiga have benefitted immensely in terms of sales after the introduction of the mild hybrid variants. Due to being exempt from the odd-even scheme in Delhi and the erstwhile diesel ban, the off-take for the mild hybrids have increased in the Delhi-NCR region.
