Tata Motors has discontinued the mid-spec Adventure and Adventure Rhythm trims available on the Punch. These trims were available in manual, AMT and CNG form and with the discontinuation, the compact SUV is now available in 8 trim levels. Do note that the recently launched Punch Camo is a limited-run festive season special, and has not been considered here.

    3. AMT and CNG variants number 6 and 5, respectively

As the table above shows, Tata’s smallest SUV is now available in a total of 19 variants, though prices are unchanged from the most recent update – they continue to start at Rs 6.13 lakh and go up to Rs 10 lakh. There are 8 variants powered by the 86hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual, 6 variants that get a 5-speed AMT option, and 5 on sale that come with a factory-fit CNG kit, where the power figure is 73.4hp.

Interestingly, the removal of the Adventure and Adventure Rhythm trims also means that there’s now a significant Rs 90,000 jump between the lower-spec Pure (O) and the Adventure S trims. However, the latter gets far more features – from a sunroof and a 3.5-inch infotainment screen to auto headlights and wipers – which does justify the price increase. The Punch continues to rival the Hyundai Exter (Rs 6 lakh-10.43 lakh), Citroen C3 (Rs 6.16 lakh-10.27 lakh) and Maruti Ignis (Rs 5.84 lakh-8.06 lakh) in our market.
