The Toyota Innova Hycross will debut in India on November 25, 2022, with prices for the Innova Hycross set to be announced at the Auto Expo 2023. Ahead of its India debut, the new Innova Hycross is expected to be unveiled globally in Indonesia around November 21, where the vehicle will be sold as the Toyota Innova Zenix.
- Innova Hycross to get two engine options
- Styling to be inspired from Toyota’s global models
- Will come with a long list of features
Toyota Innova Hycross: design and features
Based on the recently released official teaser and the leaked design rendering, the Toyota Innova Hycross will come a large and upright hexagonal grille that looks similar to the one seen on the internationally sold Corolla Cross SUV. Other design highlights at the front will include wide headlamps with two L-shaped inserts, strong creases on the bonnet, and triangular housings on the bumper for the fog lamps.
Additionally, the Innova Hycross will get the 10-spoke alloy wheels in higher variants, a panoramic sunroof, and horizontally oriented tail-lamps with LED brake lights. While there are no details of its interior for now, the Innova Hycross is expected to get features like a large touchscreen infotainment system, 360-degree camera, wireless charging and an 'ottoman function' for the captain's chairs in the second row.
Toyota Innova Hycross: chassis and powertrain
Unlike the previous iterations of the Innova that used a ladder-frame chassis and rear-wheel drive set-up, the new Innova Hycross will be based on a monocoque architecture and front-wheel-drive layout. The MPV will be based on Toyota’s modular TNGA-C platform, which allows it to have a flat floor at the rear, therefore, liberating more space for passengers.
As we have reported earlier, the new Innova Hycross will not get a diesel engine, and instead, will be offered with a naturally aspirated petrol and a strong hybrid powertrain, similar to the recently launched Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. However, the MPV will use a bigger 2.0-litre strong hybrid powertrain instead of the 1.5-litre unit used by the latter. Toyota will also heavily localise the hybrid powertrain technology for the Innova Hycross in order to keep costs in check.
Toyota Innova Hycross: launch timeline
The brand is expected to announce prices for the Innova Hycross in India at the Auto Expo 2023 – starting on January 13 – with deliveries commencing thereafter. The MPV will be sold alongside the existing Innova Crysta that is currently sold only with a petrol engine. The upcoming Innova Hycross will also be rebadged for Maruti Suzuki and sold through its Nexa dealerships.
