Chevrolet has launched the updated Cruze saloon at a starting price of Rs 13.85 lakh. This mid-life cycle update brings with it substantial mechanical upgrades but does away with any styling updates.

The revised Chevrolet Cruze is now powered by an updated 164bhp 2.0-litre engine developing 38.7kgm of torque; power is up by 16bhp and torque by 5.7kgm. The primary focus of the engine tweak has been to improve driveability, refinement and fuel efficiency. The new Cruze also gets a new six-speed manual gearbox in comparison to the five-speed unit that does duty in the old car. The saloon is also available with a six-speed automatic ‘box, carried over from the earlier one.

Available in three variants, the base LT manual variant is now priced at Rs 13.85 lakh, the LTZ manual variant retails at Rs 14.77 lakh and the automatic LTZ variant costs Rs 15.67 lakh. (All prices ex-showroom, Delhi). The base variant (LT) is Rs 1.31 lakh expensive than the older model, but comes with additional features like keyless go, six-way adjustable driver seat, a new 6-speed manual gearbox, auto up/down driver-side window, premium music system, a dead pedal, front fog lamps, steering wheel adjust for reach and rake, and chrome door handles. The LT variant  continues to be offered with features like steering mounted audio controls, 16-inch alloy wheels, ABS, and dual airbags.

In addition, the top-end LTZ variants (now dearer by Rs 60,000) get electric sun roof, leather upholstery, leather wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, foldable and heated outside mirrors, rear parking assist, rain sensing wipers, cruise control on steering wheel, anti-glare rear view mirror and music streaming via Bluetooth. These features, however, were available in the older model as well.

The new Chevrolet Cruze will compete with the likes of Volkswagen Jetta, Skoda Laura, Toyota Corolla Altis and Renault Fluence.

The company also launched the new Captiva SUV earlier this week with an upgraded engine and refreshed styling. The new Captiva is priced at Rs 18.74 lakh for the base variant, which comes with a 2.0-litre engine, while the 2.2-litre variant is priced at Rs 24.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
