Volvo India has officially rebranded the XC40 Recharge electric SUV as the EX40. This new nomenclature was globally introduced in February this year and is essentially an attempt to bring in line Volvo’s current and future EV line-ups, which also include the EX30 and EX90. The C40 Recharge coupe-SUV is also expected to follow suit, and it will be called the EC40.

    1. EX40 commands a premium of Rs 1.15 lakh over XC40 Recharge
    2. It also gets a 360-degree camera and Harman Kardon sound system
    3. XC40 Recharge stocks still available with special offers

The new Volvo EX40 is priced at Rs 56.10 lakh (ex-showroom) in India, which is a markup from the equivalent XC40 Recharge’s price of Rs 54.95 lakh (ex-showroom).

    Volvo EX40: what’s new?

The EX40 is only available in rear-wheel-drive form for now and is powered by a 69kWh battery pack. It produces 238hp and 420Nm of torque and has a claimed range of 475km (WLTP cycle). So, mechanically, it remains unchanged from the XC40 Recharge.

In terms of features, the EX40 gets Pixel LED headlamps, two-zone climate control, a 12-inch digital driver’s display, a 9-inch infotainment unit, park assist, 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, powered front seats, wireless phone charging, a 360-degree camera and a Harman Kardon sound system. The last two features were not offered with the single-motor variant of the XC40 Recharge.

Volvo XC40 Recharge continues to be in stock

Volvo India still has some unsold stock of the XC40 Recharge, which is currently listed on the company’s website with offers of up to Rs 5.05 lakh. The XC40 Recharge is, however, only available in its single-motor guise; all twin-motor units are already sold out. Meanwhile, the C40 Recharge is available in the higher-spec 408hp, twin-motor guise with a larger 78kWh battery and is listed with offers of up to Rs 1.05 lakh.
