Volkswagen has released sketches and specifications of the 2015 Passat. Images of the production car for China had been leaked online earlier.

Due to be unveiled internationally later this year, the new Passat is slated to get a sportier look with a prominent grille and distinctive headlights up front and bulging wheel arches, a chrome trim and dual exhaust system at the rear.

While VW has not released any images of the new interior, the new Passat is likely to get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. It may also get a new infotainment system that can sync with your tablets and smartphones.

The 2015 Passat will be powered by a new twin-turbo 2.0-litre TDI four-cylinder engine good for 237bhp and 51kgm of torque and it will send power to all four wheels via a seven-speed DSG gearbox.

A plug-in hybrid with a 1.4-litre petrol engine and a 100bhp electric motor may also be on the cards. The plug-in hybrid is likely to give range of 50 kilometers on the electric power only.

VW is also expected to equip the new Passat with other engines with power outputs ranging from 118bhp to 276bhp.
