Trending Questions on Mercedes-Benz Cars - Answered by Autocar Experts

I want to buy a luxury sedan for pure luxury use with an on-road budget of โ‚น1.3 crore. The car must have AWD, excellent rear seat comfort (with or without extended thigh support), ventilated seats for both front and rear occupants, top-level safety comparable to Volvo, Mercedes-grade technology, and low maintenance like a Lexus. I already own an Innova for highway use and a Nexon for city driving. Please suggest suitable options.

There isnโ€™t one car that meets all your requirements, though the Mercedes-Benz E 450 4Matic comes closest. Itโ€™s got fantastic rear seats with excellent legroom, though heating and ventilation are missing.

The six-cylinder petrol engine is also a highlight, delivering great performance with silky refinement. The 4Matic AWD system also adds to confidence and helps you make the most of the power.

I am planning to buy a luxury EV and am confused between the EQS 450, BMW iX xDrive 50, Macan Electric, and Audi e-tron SUV. This car will be for my wife, who is constantly on the move and meets HNIs regularly. The car will be chauffeur-driven. My priorities are: 1. Image 2. Range 3. Resale 4. Comfort 5. Tech Please suggest which one to buy.

All are excellent choices in this price range, but we can narrow it down. All of them pack large batteries and have good range, so that is the least of your worries.
The Porsche Macan EV is high on image value, but as a primarily chauffeur-driven car, it's not great, with ride comfort and back seat space not as good as the rest.
The Audi Q8 e-tron has arguably the best back seat and ride comfort of the lot, but it is dated now and is the lowest on flash value, and looks understated like a regular Audi SUV, and isn't packing the latest tech.
The BMW iX xDrive 50 EV is an excellent all-rounder that's powerful and great to drive, but while quirky and interesting, it doesn't quite have the presence to make a strong statement.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 450, then, should be your pick. It offers good space and comfort in the second row, excellent range, great image and presence, and loads of tech, including Mercedes' much vaunted 'hyperscreen' dashboard. Resale value is still a question mark with EVs, but Mercedes is trying to change that perception with buyback schemes on its electric cars, so be sure to check those out.

Iโ€™m looking for a family car for five people with a comfortable rear seat, strong driving character, and good resale value. My budget is around โ‚น90 lakh. Iโ€™m torn between the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Audi Q7. Please help me decide.

If your requirement is to carry five people, then the answer is definitely an SUV.

While the Mercedes-Benz E Class has one of the best back seats for the money, it is designed to be best for two people and not three.

The Audi Q7 is a good option, which also gives you the flexibility of a third row of seats. It's got a smooth and refined V6 petrol engine, comfortable air suspension, and though it is a bit old now, the latest update introduced about a year ago means it has most modern creature comforts.

Bear in mind, however, that it is likely to go a little over your budget of Rs 90 lakh, but if you can manage the stretch, it is definitely the better choice.

I have shortlisted the Mercedes AMG GLC 43 Coupe and the BMW M340i. My yearly driving will be about 8,000 km. I want a proper โ€˜wowโ€™ factor in the car. Which would be the better buy?

The Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe AMG 43 is substantially more expensive than a BMW M340i, and it certainly delivers the 'wow' factor that you're looking for, in terms of its design both outside and inside. So there's no contest between the two. If you're comfortable spending around Rs 1.15 crore for a GLC Coupe, go for it.

On the other hand, while the BMW M340i won't 'wow' you in terms of its looks or interior like the AMG, its 3-litre six-cylinder turbo-petrol's stonking performance will surely leave you grinning, and for about Rs 30 lakh less than the GLC Coupe, it delivers unmatched value.

I am planning to buy a luxury SUV, and my budget is between Rs 1.4 and 1.6 crore. I am mainly confused between the Range Rover Sport, Mercedes GLS, and BMW X7. Which one would be the best choice?

The Range Rover Sport is the one Iโ€™d steer you towards. While all three SUVs are highly capable and deliver the luxury and performance youโ€™d expect at this price point, the Range Rover Sport stands apart in a few key areas. Its design has an undeniable sense of occasion - understated yet distinctive - and it carries a level of road presence the German SUVs canโ€™t quite match. The cabin feels properly special too, with exquisite materials, a minimalist layout and a plushness that immediately sets it apart.
Out on the road, the Range Rover Sport blends performance and comfort exceptionally well. The ride quality is superb, gliding over bad patches with an effortlessness that makes long journeys genuinely relaxing.
Yes, the Mercedes-Benz GLS and BMW X7 are both extremely competent and offer more seats and practicality, but they lack the sense of class and emotional appeal that the Range Rover delivers so naturally.
If your priority is an SUV that not only performs but also feels luxurious, distinctive and a cut above in terms of desirability, the Range Rover Sport is the clear choice.

Iโ€™m looking for an SUV in the โ‚น80 lakh range. Iโ€™m considering the Volvo XC60, Mercedes-Benz GLC, and Lexus NX 350. My monthly running is about 600 km, and I want a vehicle that offers comfortable, refined driving performance. Which is the best choice?

While the Volvo XC60 is an excellent option in this segment, the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 will be the better buy. It is the most powerful SUV in the segment, has more wow-factor when it comes to the interior, will hold its value a lot better and has a comfier ride.

Yes, it is more expensive, but all things considered, it is worth spending extra and getting a well-rounded SUV.

Iโ€™m considering whether to buy a used car or a new car after driving my current vehicle for 10 more years. Iโ€™m thinking about getting a BMW or Audi hatchback in good condition. What are your thoughts?

You will not find many used BMW and Audi cars (hatchbacks) in India because very few were ever sold.
BMW did offer the 1 Series hatchback for a short time, but the numbers were still limited.

Instead, itโ€™s better to explore their small SUVs like the Audi Q3 and the BMW X1. If you are open to Mercedes-Benz cars, you can also check the A-Class or B-Class hatchbacks, though these too are rare, or consider the Mercedes GLA

When buying a premium used car, though, make sure you buy from the brand itself, as they all have an approved used program. You can also buy one from a very reputable reseller, and if things go wrong, it can be very expensive to fix.

I am currently driving a Jeep Compass and am planning to upgrade. I have shortlisted the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC, or should I wait for the upcoming Audi Q5? Please share your feedback.

In this list, the Mercedes-Benz GLC would be a good choice as it has a strong engine, premium interiors and good ride comfort as well. The BMW X3 is roomy, but lacks the luxury appeal of the GLC's interior, and the GLC also holds its value better.
The Audi Q5 will be the newest car once it launches in 2026, but there is no official confirmation on the same. Currently, the GLC is your best bet.

I am looking to replace my 2021 Tucson. My current usage is not more than 1,000 km a month, mostly on the highway. My budget is โ‚น50-60 lakh, and I have shortlisted the Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1, and Audi Q3. Looking for your guidance.

We'd recommend you narrow down your options to the Mercedes GLA 220d and Q3, both of which have strong powertrains and are a touch nicer to drive than the BMW X1.
Between the two, the Mercedes-Benz car has a more well-appointed cabin and a spacious interior. The Audi Q3's cabin is also high on quality, although it lacks flair. Where the Q3 shines is the ride comfort. Go for the Mercedes if you are willing to pick a diesel engine - you will appreciate the 220d's effortless performance on the highway.
However, if you need a petrol, the Audi Q3's turbo petrol is far superior to what Mercedes and BMW offer, hence it gets our vote.
