Mercedes-Benz India is celebrating its highest ever sales in the country with 2,827 cars and SUVs sold in March 2024; 5,412 units sold in the January to March 2024 quarter; and 18,123 units sold in FY2023-24. This marks a sales growth of 15 percent compared to Q1 2023 (4,697 units), and 10 percent over FY2022-23 sales (16,497 units).

  1. A-Class and GLA contributed 15 percent to total quarterly sales
  2. Cars, SUVs priced over Rs 1.5 crore comprised 25 percent of sales

Mercedes India sales mix

Mercedes’ sales in India were buoyed by strong demand for its extensive portfolio in the country. Sales of the company’s entry-level models – the A-Class sedan and the GLA SUV – made up 15 percent of Merc’s quarterly sales, while the ‘Core Segment’, comprising of the C-Class and E-Class sedans, and the GLC and GLE SUVs, contributed a significant 60 percent during the same period.

Meanwhile, vehicles  priced over Rs 1.5 crore (top-end vehicle or TEV segment), which includes its Maybach and AMG range, commanded 25 percent of the brand’s sales.

Even the brand’s EVs contributed to 6 percent of its total sales in the January to March 2024 quarter. This marks a year-on-year increase of 130 percent, albeit over a small base. Mercedes notes that response to the EQE SUV, which had launched in September 2023 at Rs 1.39 crore (ex-showroom, India), has been strong. The company also claims that waiting periods have reduced with some models being available in just two months and the GLE SUV having a waiting period of about seven months.

Mercedes India launches, future plans

The German luxury marque, which has been in the Indian market for 30 years, plans to double its EV portfolio by adding three new models by the year end. In total, the company plans to have nine launches in the year, including the aforementioned EVs and two new AMGs – the S 63 e-Performance sedan and the C 63 e-Performance.

Additionly, Mercedes-Benz is also planning to expand its retail network by opening showrooms in 10 new cities and inaugurating upgraded 'MAR 20X' facilities in Mumbai and New Delhi.
