Petronas MIE Racing will be fielding KY Ahamed alongside Malaysian rider Shahril Danial Syahmi as wild card entries in the Moto3 class. Both riders will compete on a Honda NSF250R.

KY Ahamed has notched up a bunch of accolades through the years. He won the 2020 Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship (INMRC) in the Pro-Stock 301-400cc category. Since then he’s also raced internationally in the Thailand Superbike 400 series and Asia Cup Japan. This year, he’s been competing in the Asia Road Racing Championship, aboard TVS Racing Team’s TVS RR310 OMC.

“From my childhood dream to the reality, I never stopped taking steps towards my goal and now I'm revved up to make my World Championship debut at the Buddh International Circuit next weekend,” said an elated KY Ahamed.

“[I’m] proud to be the First Indian in the Moto3 World Championship. Grateful for the unwavering support from everyone who made this journey possible.”

Bharat MotoGP track updates

Next weekend will see India make its debut on the MotoGP calendar. While the BIC layout will more-or-less remain the same, a few changes have been made to make it meet FIM (Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme) standards. This includes track surfacing and the addition of a lot more gravel run-off area, with organisers adding that they've also installed over 1,800 metres of new safety barricading.
