- 2023 Acropolis Rally on September 7-10
- Gill will be joined by French co-driver Florian Barral
Gill is one of the most accomplished rally racers in India, with three Asia Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) and seven Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) titles to his name. He made his WRC2 debut in 2018, driving a Ford Fiesta R5 run by M-Sport. In 2019, he spearheaded JK Tyre’s return to rallying, and has since competed in a handful of WRC2 events with JK Tyre backing him.
Last year, he competed in three events – the Safari Rally in Kenya, Rally Finland, and the Acropolis Rally. He finished sixth in Greece last year, and he’s returning this year for another crack at a strong finish.
The Acropolis Rally features twisty mountain roads, with high temperatures and dust adding to the challenge. The rally will cover a total of 1,235km, with 15 Special Stages. Joining Gill in the Rally 2-spec Fabia R5 will be his French co-driver Florian Barral.
"I’m really looking forward to driving in the Rally Acropolis. The sweltering heat, the dust, the rocky mountain passes and loose gravel all combine to make this one of the most punishing rallies on the calendar,” said Gill.
“This event is not for the faint-hearted, but these conditions play to my strengths. I expect to be in my element this weekend and I’m going to give it everything to bring home a strong result.”
The WRC2 is the leading support series for the World Rally Championship, with cars homologated under Group Rally2 rules. The class is limited to production-based cars and the technical specifications are strictly regulated, making it more affordable for private teams.
