Piaggio has models from its various brands on display at Auto Expo 2020, and its sub-brand, Aprilia, has revealed an all-new product at the show. When it goes on sale, it'll be called the SXR and will be available as a 125cc variant and a 160cc variant, just like the current SR range. The scooters will go on sale in September, with bookings opening a month earlier in August 2020.
The Cross-Max Concept follows a maxi-scooter-like design language, as seen on the SRV 850 that was once sold in India. Elements like the elongated footboard and large seat – much like the Suzuki Burgman Street – are an indication of this. In fact, the 125cc SXR will directly rival the Burgman but at a higher price point.
The SXR models were designed and developed in Italy, and will feature a multifunction digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity, LED twin-pod headlights and a vast array of accessories.
Aprilia will offer the scooter in four colour schemes: blue, red, white and black. Piaggio is looking to position the SXR between the Vespa and the Aprilia SR range, and its pricing will reflect this. For reference, prices for the current BS6 Vespa range start at Rs 93,000 and go up to Rs 1.3 lakh, while the Aprilia SR range starts at Rs 86,000 and goes up to Rs 1.14 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
