Suzuki Burgman Street unveiled at Auto Expo 2018

Suzuki has taken the wraps off its indigenously developed premium scooter for India, the Burgman Street. The Burgman is a nameplate associated with Suzuki’s flagship scooter family and, currently, the company has it in 125, 200, 250, 400 and 600cc guises for international markets. With this reveal, the Burgman nameplate makes its Indian debut, although it isn’t the full-size Burgman as we’ve known it.

The Burgman Street is powered by a 124.3cc engine, as on the Access 125. The Access is powered by a 124cc motor which produces 8.6hp at 6,500 rpm and 10.2Nm at 5,000rpm, and the specifications are expected to be the same for the Street as well.

The Burgman Street is the first maxi-scooter to go on sale in India since the Kinetic Blaze and is a feature-rich scooter, a sort of trend followed by all new-gen scooters. It features a fully digital instrument cluster, a multifunction key slot, generous underseat storage, a 12V charging socket, tubeless tyres and an LED tail-lamp.

The Burgman range, internationally, has had its focus on comfort more than a sporty intent and the  Street is expected to do the same in our market. To cater to this, the Burgman Street features a telescopic fork and a monoshock, and has a 90/90-12 tyre at the front and a 90/100-10 one at the rear. It gets a disc at the front and a drum brake at the rear.

Typical of the Burgman family, the Street is elaborately styled and features a unique front end thanks to the large apron and unusual windscreen. The seat, going by Burgman family traits, is also wide and comfortable with a pronounced step between the rider and pillion pads. It also appears to share its mirrors with the Suzuki Gixxer and the exhaust gets an elaborate shroud as well.

Suzuki is expected to launch the Burgman Street soon and it is likely to cost Rs 7,000 to Rs 8,000 more than the top-spec Access SE.
