BMW has had a busy Auto Expo 2018 and has used the motor show to launch the updated versions of the M3 sedan and M4 coupe. The M3 has been priced at Rs 1.30 crore while the M4 comes in at Rs 1.33 crore (both prices ex-showroom, India). The new models are about Rs 4 lakh dearer than the outgoing models but now come with the formerly optional Competition Pack as standard.
The refreshed cars sport new adaptive LED headlamps and tail-lamps, while the Competition Pack brings with it exhaust pipes finished in black, a carbon roof and gloss paint finish. The 19-inch alloys, shod in 255/35 R19 front and 275/35 R19 rear tyres, are standard, though 20-inch ones, with 265/30 R20 front and 285/35 R20 rear rubber, are on the list of options.
The Competition Pack also comes with a small bump up in power. The 3.0-litre, in-line six-cylinder turbo-petrol mill makes 450hp at 7,000rpm (up by 19hp) while torque is the same 550Nm at 2,350-5,500rpm. Just as before, the engine transfers power to the rear wheels via a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Finally, the Competition Pack also gives the M3 and M4 a stiffer setup for the Adaptive M suspension (which features three modes – Comfort, Sport and Sport+) and a louder M Performance exhaust. There’s also the option of carbon-ceramic brakes, a Driver’s Package that increases top speed to 280kph (from 250kph), parking assist and a 360-degree camera.
The M3 sedan is a direct rival to the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S that is priced at Rs 1.44 crore (ex-showroom, India). The M4 will get a rival soon in the form of the Audi RS5 that is expected to launch by February end.
